Ask For Help When Under Stress

We often, or instinctively, look to leadership for guidance, support, and the motivation to persevere through the darkest hours. These dark times include sad news, the never ending virus stories and reports of job losses, and money problems.

That’s a lot of weight to bear especially when you are not prepared. You can, and should,  ask for help. Even the best leaders will try to suggest a solution and make it look easy, but believe me it is not easy! It takes courage to handle bad news, or frustration, and to keep going.

You need inner strength to rise to the occasion for your family, team, and sometimes the company’s sake. Think of the leader. It takes courage to look to previous knowledge and expertise when help is requested and to offer a solution that might not be a happy one.

Often good advice has risks with no safety net. Your make up might be such that you cannot easily handle bad news, so you have to plan to listen openly, and most importantly, to look in the mirror and confront what you see and can do!

Key lessons from leaders and learning from others is important, and can help guide you in life. Remember when times are stressful and unpredictable, ask for help and do not carry the strain all by yourself. Even just asking or talking about the problem reduces stress.
